| Biography 
Preston was born and raised in Hawaii. As a result of  her  father's
  position  with  an agricultural firm, the family moved first to Iraq
  for one year and then to Australia for two years. It was  while  she
  was  a  teenager  in  Hawaii  that  Preston  appeared  in television
  commercials and began to develop an interest in  an  acting  career.
  Upon  graduating  from high school, Preston relocated to Los Angeles
  and enrolled at the University  of  Southern  California  where  she
  studied  drama  and  theater.  She  eventually  transferred  to  the
  University of California at Los Angeles where she decided to  pursue
  acting  seriously.  She  would  soon  win  her  very first audition.
  Preston made her feature film debut with  a  well-received  role  in
  the  hit  motion  picture  comedy,  _Twins  (1988)_  (qv),  opposite
  'Arnold  Schwarzenegger'  (qv)  and  'Danny  DeVito'  (qv).  Preston
  received  rave  reviews opposite 'Tom Cruise' (qv) in the box office
  hit _Jerry Maguire (1996)_ (qv) as Avery,  Maguire's  ambitious  and
  aggressive   fiancee.  The  picture  was  written  and  directed  by
  'Cameron Crowe' (qv). She was also seen in a  pivotal  role  in  the
  critically-acclaimed  motion  picture _Citizen Ruth (1996)_ (qv). On
  television, Preston starred  in  'Arthur  Miller'  (qv)'s  _American
  Clock,  The (1993) (TV)_ (qv) for TNT. She has also been featured in
  numerous other  television  programs,  including  both  daytime  and
  prime time drama series.
